It was my great pleasure to host the conference Irish in Outlook: A Hundred Years of Irish Education in Trinity College Dublin in 2022. It marked the centenary of the publication of Public Notice No. 4, by which the incoming government of the Free State sought to shape the education system of a post-colonial Ireland. This notice placed the Irish language at the heart of the education system, which was considered the primary vehicle for gaelicisization. The proceedings have now been published.
